My Dreams
Three turns to go
Dad and I singing in the front seat
Such a wonderful beat
107.9 is our station
Only for such an amazing notion

We pull in
Pay the man and then
Get in our park
The one beside the blue mark

Kids running and playing
My dad laughing and saying
“Today is our day babygirl!”
Only my mind is thinking
“I want to hurl!”

The sound not for the sensitive of hearing
The odor not for the sensitive of smelling
Goosebumps appear on my arm
It is amazingly warm

I see the blue body
The yellow trim
My only hobby
My main dream

The regulars understand who I am
But the unknowns only see I am a woman

They try to intimidate
But never try to liquidate
This sport is not normal
Especially not for the formal

Now it’s me, them, and the track
There is no turning back
Shaky hands strap me in
While shaky grins pass me when

They know I am a girl
Even without my jumpy curls
Fist hits and hand shakes
Only if they knew how my chest aches

Sweat running down my face
Ignore it.
And inter the race

Motors RAWR louder than the king of the jungle
During the rumble
I take the lead
LAST LAP!
Fascinating speed

CHECKERED FLAG!
I did it!
Spin in circles in the middle

Go to the pit
Such a site
Green shirts, Blue shirts, Black.
All I can see running past

I climb out
Only to see
My friends and family cheering for me
Acceptance and understanding
Is all I need?

I wake up
Only to know
It was but a dream
My imaginary win

No one gets what I go through
Just to be accepted in the world

I am a girl
But guys think other wise
I am not someone to walk and trample all over
It was but a dream
But one day it will be true

Because one day what my father speaks
Will be what others seek

In the Mind of a Women

In The Mind of a Women
Ever since I was younger, I have always been talked down to by men and boys my age. I was raised with boys my whole life, and I was always talked to as if I was below them. When I started racing go-karts, the judgments got worse and worse. Guys thought they could scare me out of racing, and that I would give up because they gave me a hard time about it. I held my head up high and played around with them right back. Eventually, they just gave up, and now I only get judged by people who do not know me and are new to the tracks I go to. Women go through the same situations that I do in their everyday lives. Women get paid significantly less than men in sports because no one watches it. People say, “We only get paid for what we are worth.” I have heard men say that my entire life, and I honestly get tired of it.
When, I went on Women’s Sports Foundation’s website I found many articles on my topic, and it is very debatable because men think women are treated equally, but women do not. Women sports like the Women’s National Basketball Association, WNBA, that are on TV at times do not get paid anywhere near what National Basketball Association, NBA, players do. WNBA players make on average $40,000 a year on a seven-month contract while a NBA player makes on average $5.15 million a year. There is a $932,700 difference between men and women in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA, I-A with men in the better. Prize for a Professional Golf Association, PGA, tour is $2526 million while the Ladies Professional Golf Association, LPGA, is only $50 million. If, women won the cup in the Women’s World Cup they only get $58,000 and all men have to do is reach the quarter final to earn $200,000. Does this seem equal at all? Men have the upper hand in the world because they are known to be stronger and more controlling.
I want to research this issue because I want women to be equal and want them to feel like they can take on anything in the world. Women give up on their dreams every day because there is that one man in their lives that say they cannot do anything because they are women, and I think women can do just as much as a man can. I want women to know they can succeed at every little thing they put their hearts too, and even if it is a “man’s” thing. If more women think they can do anything they put their hearts to then this world will be run much smoother. I want to raise the awareness of women inequality and find new ways to help fix it. Women are not treated equally and there has to be a change.
