My Dreams
Three turns to go
Dad and I singing in the front seat
Such a wonderful beat
107.9 is our station
Only for such an amazing notion
We pull in
Pay the man and then
Get in our park
The one beside the blue mark
Kids running and playing
My dad laughing and saying
“Today is our day babygirl!”
Only my mind is thinking
“I want to hurl!”
The sound not for the sensitive of
hearing
The odor not for the sensitive of
smelling
Goosebumps appear on my arm
It is amazingly warm
I see the blue body
The yellow trim
My only hobby
My main dream
The regulars understand who I am
But the unknowns only see I am a
woman
They try to intimidate
But never try to liquidate
This sport is not normal
Especially not for the formal
Now it’s me, them, and the track
There is no turning back
Shaky hands strap me in
While shaky grins pass me when
They know I am a girl
Even without my jumpy curls
Fist hits and hand shakes
Only if they knew how my chest aches
Sweat running down my face
Ignore it.
And inter the race
Motors RAWR louder than the king of
the jungle
During the rumble
I take the lead
LAST LAP!
Fascinating speed
CHECKERED FLAG!
I did it!
Spin in circles in the middle
Go to the pit
Such a site
Green shirts, Blue shirts, Black.
All I can see running past
I climb out
Only to see
My friends and family cheering for
me
Acceptance and understanding
Is all I need?
I wake up
Only to know
It was but a dream
My imaginary win
No one gets what I go through
Just to be accepted in the world
I am a girl
But guys think other wise
I am not someone to walk and trample
all over
It was but a dream
But one day it will be true
Because one day what my father speaks
Will be what others seek
